On McMillan's theorem about uniquely decipherable codes

چکیده
Let len : A −→ N be the length function on the free monoid of all strings over a given non-empty finite set A. Let con : A −→ A be the concatenation map which to every string of strings associates their concatenation. A uniquely decipherable code is a finite set C ⊆ A such that con is injective on the submonoid C of A. This submonoid is then isomorphic to the submonoid C = con[C] of A freely generated by C. Denoting by r the number of elements of the alphabet A, the Kraft sum K(C) of any finite C ⊆ A is defined as ∑

Note on Decipherability of Three-word Codes
The theory of uniquely decipherable (UD) codes has been widely developed in connection with automata theory, combinatorics on words, formal languages, and monoid theory. Recently, the concepts ofmultiset decipherable (MSD) and set decipherable (SD) codes were developed to handle some special problems in the transmission of information. Unique decipherability is a vital requirement in a wide ran...
متن کاملCodes and Formulation of Appropriate Constraints via Entropy Measures
In present communication, we have developed the suitable constraints for the given the mean codeword length and the measures of entropy. This development has proved that Renyi’s entropy gives the minimum value of the log of the harmonic mean and the log of power mean. We have also developed an important relation between best 1:1 code and the uniquely decipherable code by using different measure...

متن کاملMonoids and Maximal Codes
In recent years codes that are not Uniquely Decipherable (UD) have been studied partitioning them in classes that localize the ambiguities of the code. A natural question is how we can extend the notion of maximality to codes that are not UD. In this paper we give an answer to this question. To do this we introduce a partial order in the set of submonoids of a monoid showing the existence, in t...
متن کاملOn Shannon-McMillan's limit theorem for pairs of stationary random processes
The classical Shannon-McMillan's fundamental limit theorem concerns the asymptotic behaviour of the probability of n-letter blocks produced by a discrete stationary source. In the case of abstract-alphabet sources we replace naturally the above probability by some probability density. Instead of individual sources we, thus, need now pairs of sources, the one dominating (in the sense of absolute...
